I bought this to use at my wedding because I didn't want a boring reception. It was definitely a hit with the guests (no children at the wedding so it was all adults who enjoyed playing). I have no idea what the rules are supposed to be but we ignored the cue ball after breaking then struck the balls individually to get them in the pockets. I'm sure you could play using the cue if you're more skilled than we are! It was only used for a few hours so it's in great condition If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
