Description

Vintage 70s Schwinn Super Le Tour Classic Italian Chromoly Steel Road Touring Bicycle Bike great City bike or gravel bike conversion candidate. 63cm 25 in Up for sale is a classic Schwinn Super Le Tour 10-speed road bike in iconic Schwinn Red. Built with quality lugged steel tubing, this is a smooth-riding, versatile vintage bike with plenty of potential—whether you want a classic vintage roadie or a custom build. Unlike cheaper vintage bikes constructed from heavy Hi-Ten carbon steel, this Schwinn Super Le Tour features a high-grade frame built with Italian Columbus Tenax double-butted chromoly steel tubing (Tre Tubi Rinforzati). During this era of production, Schwinn partnered with Panasonic in Japan to manufacture these precision-lugged frames, pairing renowned Japanese manufacturing and quality control with world-class Italian steel tubing. The result is a lightweight, responsive, and compliant chassis that delivers a significantly smoother ride than entry-level vintage bikes while offering exceptional long-term durability. Key Features & Possibilities * Ride It Classic: Keep it as-is for that authentic vintage 10-speed road experience with drop bars and stem shifters. * City / Commuter Conversion: The touring-style geometry (longer wheelbase, stable fork rake) makes this frame a fantastic candidate for a flat-bar, riser, or swept-back North Road city bike setup. Replacing the drop bars brings the reach back, creating a comfortable, upright position for around-town cruising or commuting. * Custom Cockpit: Plenty of flexibility to swap in modern drop bars, tilt the stem angle for a more relaxed stance, or adapt the shifter setup. * Light Gravel / Mixed Surface Potential: Unlike tight vintage racing frames, these sport-tourers have decent tire clearance around the chainstays and brake calipers. With a swap to wider rubber or a 700c wheel upgrade down the line, it makes a great budget vintage gravel or path grinder. Frame Measurements & Sizing * Seat Tube Height: Approximately 25 inches (63 cm) center to top of seat tube collar. * Top Tube Length: Approximately 22.5 inches (57 to 58 cm) center to center. * Standover / Leg Length: Best for riders around 6 foot 0 inches to 6 foot 4 inches (ideally a 33+ inch inseam to clear the top tube comfortably). * Fit Flexibility with Bars: With drop bars, best for taller riders (6 foot 0 inches to 6 foot 3 inches) who want a traditional road reach. With flat or upright bars, the shortened upper-body reach expands the sweet spot toward the lower end (5 foot 11 inches to 6 foot 1 inch), giving you an upright, non-stretched-out position while maintaining standover clearance. Good vintage condition overall. Tires hold air and are rideable, but the sidewalls are deteriorated and should be replaced. Good vintage style gumwalls or black tires can be bought pretty cheaply, and wider city or gravel tires would be a great choice. Shifters shift smoothly and work properly through the gears. Aluminum wheels are straight. Brakes work but surely would benefit from fresh modern pads. Cables seem fine but could probably use some lube. Bike will probably need a bit of overall tuning up.
