Description

RARE Mid Century Vintage RCA Carfone 150 Two Way FM Radio Transmitter 1950s UNTESTED The Carfone 150 was a two way FM radio made by RCA in the 1950's, approximately 1954-59 to be precise. The 150 is a VHF high band (150-174 MHz) radio while the Carfone 50 is a low band (30-50 MHz) model. Dusty & dirty, maybe some light rust, classic & rare. Untested & sold AS-IS. No way to test. May have been exposed to the elements but looks very intact inside & out. What you see is what you get, nothing else included. See last photo for QR code to my eBay for more ham radio items. Meeting near 7th Ave & McDowell The Carfone 150 came in a number of power levels, most were dynamotor powered on transmit and vibrator powered on receive. The physical construction consists of three strip-chassis inside a rugged steel case, with a locking t-handle. The three chassis are: power supply, transmtter and receiver. Crystal controlled, most were single channel but some were two channel. There is of course a separate control head with speaker and mike all cabled to the "drawer" which mounts in the car trunk. There was also a "front mount" option to allow the entire monster to fit in the passenger compartment, such as in a cement mixer truck. They were used by police departments, businesses, taxis, plumbers, almost any user of two way radio. There was a later modification to change the power supply over to transistor power and get rid of the dynamotor and vibrator. The transmitter uses either one or two 6146's and the whole thing is pretty straightforward in layout and easy to work on. It's quite something to hear the dynamotor kick on and wind up when you press the push-to-talk button on the mike! RCA never had the market share that Motorola and GE did, so these radios are rather rare. PRICE IS FIRM. Meeting near 7th Ave & McDowell PLEASE READ: Price is firm, no lowballers, please. If listed, item is available. Please be able to meet when inquiring. Meeting within a few miles of 7th Ave & McDowell in Phoenix, no delivery, though may consider for fee. Cash preferred, other methods agreed upon in advance & price is assumed firm if meeting.
