Description
Vintage nailed wood steamer trunk made by the NeverBreak company in New Jersey. The NeverBreak company was owned by L. Goldsmith and Son and made trunks until the 1940’s. The lid has the name SMITH, HAL handwritten in faded orange letters across the top. Hal Smith, was best known for playing Otis on the Andy Griffith Show, lived in Santa Monica (where I purchased this at a garage sale), and aligns with the manufactures timeframe. So there’s an interesting (although unlikely) backstory to go along with it, that can’t be disproven. Both ends of the trunk have the initials J.M. stenciled in orange paint, along with old cracked shipping labels. The inside of the trunk is lined with a gold and brown baroque pattern fabric. I added 4 iron swivel caster wheels (2 locking) and converted it to a one-of-a-kind industrial coffee table. This trunk has seen some things! and the cracks and scuffs that give it it’s character and charm can attest to that. 40” long x 24” wide x 14” tall (18” tall with wheels) $120 OBO Pick up near downtown Culver City Thanks for looking!
