Antique 1(contact info removed) Japy Freres French Marble Mantle Gong Chiming Key Wind Clock. The movement is a mechanical wind-up time and strike with cathedral gong chime. The mark stamped on the movement reads “JAPY FRERES & Cie. Medals D’Honneur” This marking was earned by winning the Grand Medal De Honour in Paris in 1855 which allowed the Japy company to use this marking on their clocks until 1873. The serial number “84948” and “MADE IN FRANCE” are also stamped on the movement. The case is a heavy black architectural marble slate with inlaid marble accents and engraved Victorian designs. The white porcelain numeral ring has Roman numerals with brass border rings. The clock is 15” wide and 12” tall. This clock will need some adjusting.
