Description

You won't find another necklace like this. This handmade Native American made necklace was purchased by my great grandmother in the 60s or 70s. It contains 24 superb, uniform sea of cortez pearls and 7 large chunks on candelaria turquoise with sterling silver beads separating each element. It totals 21" in length and sits a bit below the clavicle. Retail on this piece is somewhere between 15 and $25000. I would consider serious trade offers. I wish my pictures would capture how gorgeous these pearls are. The lustre is just too strong for my camera. Colors range from teal to violet very iridescent with lots of blues and greens. These pearls are only produced in the Sea of Cortez in Mexico by the rainbow oyster, and are the only saltwater pearls harvested anywhere in the Americas! These pearls are uniquely uniform on this necklace, if you know sea of cortez pearls, they are almost never strung together like this. These A grade pearls vary from 9.5mm to 11.5mm in length, and are all 7.2 to 7.5 mm in girth! Even the smallest pearl is quite large and most of them are on the bigger side of the range. Only one of the pearls has a noticeable variation to shape as well, it looks exactly like a tear drop. Which is the more common baroque type pearl produced. The others have an uncommon shape to them, making them more desireable. The turquoise specimen are all roughly 1" × 3/4" × 1/2". They are a gorgeous light hue of robins egg blue with varying levels of matrix. Turquoise has become depleted and pieces of this size and color will never come out of any of the mines we know of.
