Supporting Devon Murray’s Brain Injury Recovery

Description

On Sunday July 21st, Devon Murray was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with a severe head injury. At first it seemed like he had fallen and hit his head, broke his nose, lost a tooth, but all in all would be okay. His second CT scan came back after 12 hours in the hospital and showed a severe brain bleed. From here on out, the Murray family's lives have been turned upside down. Devon underwent emergency surgery that Sunday where they removed part of his skull to help relieve the swelling that was happening in his brain. The doctors said that it may be weeks before they are able to put his skull back in place. He has a severe bleed on the left side of his brain. This part of the brain dictates speech and movement. Devon was sedated and intubated and spent several days in the ICU. He is currently out of the ICU but still staying at the hospital for an undetermined amount of time. He's been able to do limited movements, and his first words were spoken yesterday (7/22) to his son Colin, saying "I love you too". He is not conversational. It is expected that he will need months of rehab/physical therapy to learn how to move his body and talk again. From what we've learned so far, brain injuries are extremely hard to predict as far as recovery goes and what the future will look like. There's so much we don't know yet, will he make a full recovery? Will his memory be affected? Dr's have told Alicia that it may be months before they get an official prognosis. In the midst of all of this, Alicia was in the middle of a job change and Devon will be losing health insurance. Alicia will also have to return to work 7/27. Devon bartended two nights a week and was a stay at home dad the rest of the time, to their 4 year old son Colin. Their needs are as follows: Paying for and securing childcare for Colin Financial help as they adjust to Devin being out of work indefinitely Help paying for bills while Alicia has taken time off work to be at the hospital with him Financial assistance to help cover medical expenses and ongoing physical therapy and rehabilitation treatments All proceeds will go directly to Devon and Alicia Murray as they adjust to this new life. Cost feels very intangible right now, and anything you can share would be greatly appreciated. I will be posting updates here as we learn more, and may adjust the financial goal depending on how things develop. Thank you and much love, Daniel https://offerup.com/redirect/?o=aHR0cHM6Ly9nb2Z1bmQubWUvZTFiMWZkNGI=
