Description
Set of 2 late 19th.c. cast iron garden chairs c.1890. Curving backrests with elaborate scrolling detail and flower garlands around a central oval cartouche. Over pierced seats (to allow water to drain through) raised on shapely cabriole legs with spade feet. Heavily overpainted with obvious wear and flaking. Otherwise good condition, solid and sturdy and ready for use. Cast in heavy gauge iron, each chair weighs 20kg. Dimensions: Width 15½" Height 33" Depth 19” The chairs are similar to a design produced by Atlanta Stove Works in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The company was founded in 1889 and became the largest cast iron foundry in the USA and possibly the world, eventually closing in 1957, over the years producing a range of items from cast iron stoves to garden furniture.
