I simply kept that side against the wall and have used it without any issues, but someone who is handy should be able to repair it. The arm fabric also has cat scratches from my cats. Replacement covers are still available from IKEA and can also be found on eBay if you want it looking like new. The sleeper mechanism and storage work well. This is a fantastic sofa for someone looking for an inexpensive sleeper, a DIY project, or a sofa to recover. Pickup only. It is heavy, so please bring help to load. I have a dolly.
