Description

It's the mid-1960s, and the U.S military is no longer satisfied by their light vehicle fleet that was mostly outclassed in the Second World War by Jeep's legendary CJ. It was time for something more revolutionary: a light, intimidating, rugged vehicle that could win wars. Nearly a decade of design wars between several companies happened before American Motors secured the deal, producing the AM General Humvee in 1983. The Gulf War in 1991 demanded widespread use of the vehicle, and everybody wanted one, creating a demand for civilian versions. The Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, also helped by persuading American Motors to build a civilian variant. This 1990 model, however, is a raw, unfiltered war machine that has since retired and is now in civilian use, awaiting its next owner. Exterior and InteriorAlthough the Humvee was a military vehicle, its prime purpose was to be quick and agile across varying terrain, and for that reason, Humvees of the 1990s were not given doors or a roof. The only options were soft doors that could be attached with minimal effort. The owner of this Humvee, though, has had custom hard doors inserted to make it more practical for everyday use, but the original soft doors will be included in the sale. The original four-person soft top, however, remains as it is. This 1990 AM General Hummer M998 will also come with a set of OEM side mirrors and three extra tires. If the exterior of this vehicle didn't do enough to convince you that the Humvee was designed for military purposes, the interior will. Comforts are sparse, plush materials that you will find within the cabin of a usual civilian vehicle has been replaced chiefly by military-grade steel, but if you have even considered reading this far into the bio of a Humvee, you already know that these features are what makes owning a Humvee so special. Still, all hope isn't lost in the case of this 1990 AM General Hummer M998, as you will find a few custom interior upgrades, such as a bench-style leather seat in the rear and an aftermarket radio with USB connectivity. EngineAs for power, the 1990 AM General Hummer M998, with all of its mass, requires something as capable as the 6.2L diesel V8 that Detroit Diesel, a division of General Motors at the time of inception, manufactured. Transmission, of course, is offered in the form of a 3-speed automatic. As you'd expect, all four wheels are driven too.
