1890s Charleston Merchant S. Strauss blank receipt . Simon Strauss from Bennettsville, sC born in Germany and emigrated to the US in 1872. He and his brother started the general store in 1873 and sold everything from clothing and shoes to rugs and cameras and pianos. Leopold the brother spent 2 years living in Charleston. Simon went back to Germany, but Leopold's children were working in their father's store at the turn of the century. They were a respected Jewish family in SC during the gilded years and into the 20th century. Selling pairs of these for 10 bucks.
