Description
This mid-century painting, an oil on canvas, depicts a chic woman in a yellow dress. Likely painted in Mexico, it’s signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner. The gorgeous wood frame measures 32.25” by 38.25”. This portrait comes from the estate of the sitter. Bacia Gordon, known for her mid-century portraiture, was born in Lithuanian, grew up in Poland and eventually immigrated to the United States. After studying at the Art Institute of Chicago, she traveled widely across the United States, Mexico and Israel, painting as she went. Note there’s significant foxing on the back of the canvas but it is not visible on the front of the painting. There is foxing on the linen mat, which could be cleaned or replaced.
