Viking Aronia Plants for Sale $15 each or 3 for $40 Aronia Plants are approximately 2 feet tall in gallon sized pots. Aronia ripens fruit in late summer. Ripe fruit is purplish, black in color and full of vitamins and antioxidants. Underripe aronia berries are tart and as such aronia gets a bad rap for being bitter and sour. This is a common judgement on Aronia but can be corrected by trying fully ripe Aronia berries. Fully ripe Aronia fruit is still a little tart but many people do eat them fresh, they are in no way bitter or sour. Most people don’t eat them fresh, they are often made into juice, jams, baking, wine, or preserves. People who do eat them fresh have described Aronia as ‘the superfood that tastes like a superfood!’ Viking Aronia is self-pollinating so you only need 1 bush to produce fruit. Mature Aronia plants can grow up to about 5 feet tall and spread 5 feet wide. Plants will bear fruit after about 1-3 years. Aronia plants do best in well-drained soil and produce the most fruit when planted in full sun. Aronia is an easy grower in the Northeast and can be grown in much of the county as it’s hardy in USDA zones 3-8. Mature plants can easily produce 10-15 pounds of Aronias per plant.
