Description

Framed print of Rosa Bonheur's famous painting, The Horse Fair. The original oil-on-canvas painting was created between 1852–1855 and is currently housed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The work depicts the horse market held in Paris on the tree-lined Boulevard de l'Hôpital. It was Bonheur's best-known painting and caused a sensation when first exhibited at the Salon of 1853. Prints and reproductions of this iconic artwork have been widely circulated and sold over the years, often in ornate frames similar to the one pictured.
