Description

National Bank Notes were issued from 1(contact info removed) by private banks federally chartered as "national banks." Secured by U.S. bonds purchased by the banks, these notes feature the U.S. Treasury Seal and common designs but also bear the name and charter number of the bank, as well as signatures of the bank's officials. They’re bigger in size than today’s dollar bills, called “horse blankets “ due to their large size. This Series 1902 note features a vignette of "The Landing of the Pilgrims" on the back, along with the portrait of President Benjamin Harrison on the front.
