Description

(Buffet R13 serial #48991. No K prefix. Evette & Schaeffer Master Models had K prefix) Up for offer is a clarinet Great for band class all the way to professional artists and collectors. This is a 1955 Evette & Shaeffer Master Model Bb clarinet and what makes this one unique is that it is one of the Rare Buffet professional R13. Deemed "reject" models that on final inspection was labeled Evette & Shaeffer (MM).  The rejection was for cosmetics and not to the playability of the instrument. This is a professional R13 polycylindrical bore clarinet badged an intermediate master bore clarinet. The clarinet I have is a Evette & Shaeffer Master Model with the serial number of #48991(1955) putting it just over 100 after first known reject.  All keywork is that of a R13 and has cut outs under the right hand pinky keys--only present in R13s.  This R13 shares 1 post for A and G, like the first R13s up to #50000 and has Made in France in all the correct locations. Only done on Buffet R13 clarinets.  Comes with a 1950s Selmer Oval HS* mouthpiece I had this clarinet in recently to a respected technician / Buffet dealer for the Seattle Orchestra who verified that it is a polycylindrical bore.  He could visually see the taper and that it has undercut tone holes.  He also noted is has a slightly smaller tuning barrel.  The clarinet is in good condition with no cracks in the premium buffet aged grenadilla wood. The woodwind technician re sat the keys and made sure it was playable as it has been sitting for about 20 years.  The keys do show age.  When I picked up the clarinet it was played next to a 1970s 100xxx or so buffet R13 and mine plays beautifully.  No doubt that this is a R13 once you hear it.  Note that the pads seal to about 85% or so but was told they should be done by next owner if they want to do an overhaul. As It does not change tone.  Asking $750 cash for case and clarinet. Reasonable offers will be considered. Willing to meet so you can have the clarinet inspected and played.
