Designed in the style of the Ikenobō (池坊) school, the oldest and largest school of ikebana. Made from solid cast iron, this vase is heavy and durable, with a black finish. Features a two-part construction with a wide, flat top and a tapered, stand-like body. The side is inscribed with the characters 南蛮池坊 (Nanban Ikenobō) in gold. The term "Nanban" (Southern Barbarian) refers to a style inspired by early Western influence during Japan's 16th-17th century trade period, adding a unique historical detail. Usubata vases have been used for ikebana arrangements since at least the 16th century, holding a significant place in the formal displays of the Ikenobō school.
