In containers it stays 2 to 3 feet tall. The self-fertile tree usually matures around 4 to 6 feet if planted in the ground. The fig’s skin is black, the scrumptious fruit inside is deep red, juicy and sweet with a hint of raspberry/berry flavors. They are self-fertile, low maintenance, and stay about 8 to 10 feet tall. The skin of this fig is deep brownish/purple and the interior of the fruit is light red. These seedless figs ripen August to October. Enjoy them freshly picked, or sliced into yogurt, ice cream, or fruit salad. Ficus carica ‘LSU Purple’ USDA Zones 7-10 BROWN TURKEY FIG has a subtle and mild sweet flavor, deep purple skin, and a rich pink interior. It is enjoyed fresh, dried, in salads, or for jams and preserves. A local favorite, its harvest time is late summer through fall. The low-maintenance tree grows in about any type of soil. They are rich and sweet, said to have the flavor of a strawberry/blueberry combination. Chicago Hardy Fig has purplish-brown skin; it is rosy red inside and delicious eaten fresh or dried. The multi-branched and self-fertile tree matures about 10 to 15 feet tall. Harvests are consistent because the tree produces fruit on the new season’s growth (branches will regrow after cold winters.)
