NOTE: I don’t respond to generic messages- if item is listed- it is STILL AVAILABLE - Send me an actual message. Selling an authentic and rare METATE (mealing stone) complete with original Mano. Most likely from Mexico or Central America- This is a hand-carved chunk of lava rock whose use goes back to ancient times. These hand grinders are usually used for corn and grains. Similar to a "Molcajete"(pestle & mortar). This antique metate measures about 11.5x8 inches. The mano (hand) measures about 3 x 6 inches. The design on this old metate, incorporates three legs,with the back one taller, to aid in the grinding process. This is an old piece and does show some signs of use, which ads to its charm, but still functional. It is quite heavy and weighs about 30-40 lbs. Makes for a great collectible artifact as a piece of art/sculpture or to actually use to grind food.
