This 2010 violin was crafted in Romania by a talented luthier, Francisc Gyorke, who specialized in cellos but has made a few violins. He has been recognized as a bronze medalist from the Cremona. Violins from this luthier retails in the $2,000s. It is a Guarnerius copy from my estimation, but we would need to take it to a luthier to be sure. I received it from a student whose aunt gave it to her but it had been sitting in her closet for years. This violin itself has a deeply flamed maple two-piece back, It emanates a bright, clear tone with a strong, persisting resonance. There are minor scratches and chips of the varnish, in addition to the tip of one of the front side C-bout corners. The violin itself is a full size 4/4, but it is technically on the smaller end of the size range (353 mm back length while traditional 4/4 sizes are around 356 mm), making this perfect for a smaller adult/student’s fingering range without sacrificing the surprisingly powerful sound that gets dampened with your typical 3/4-size violin. While the instrument currently features steel strings, it would probably excel with Dominant strings to further enrich its sound. I could restring it with new strings for an additional price. This comes with a case and a bow—the bow will likely be one of the bows that come with the Cecilio line of instruments.
