This industrial fine mulch papershredder accepts up to 80 sheets of standard 8.5 x 11 letter paper at a time, as well as DVDs, credit cards, DVD jewel cases, aluminum foil, thin metals of other types and a variety of other materials, such as your hand or necktie, so please take care when operating the unit (it does have a safety guard, but please use caution during operation as it really does mulch up just about anything you can get in the rather wide, thigh opening to the business end of the shredding mechanism. I would not use this machine to shred cheese or other foodstuffs, but that's about the limit of what it shouldn't be used to shred up. This unit (and those like it performing similar jobs with similar size, capacity and speed) costs around $1,200.00 to purchase brand new. It has a large enclosure below the shredder mechanism, which allows you to place a leaf or lawn bag size of plastic bag to catch falling material as it enters the reciprocal as it is turned into mulch by the whirring stretch as they render, rip apart and tear to literal shreds whatever material was placed into the feeder, above. Because such a high volume of material can be so rapidly shredded by this device, a great weight of paper, plastic, etc., typically accumulates below the shredding mechanism in the waste receptacle, so rather than "el cheapo" lawn or leaf bags from the dollar store, I generally use "contractor bags" - a much thicker and Gardiner yeah bag you can get from Loewe's or Home Depot. Using the much much tougher contractor bags (a lot like standard trash compactor bags, but larger) helps keep from having to clean up a giant mess of powdered documents and little piece of plastic will be spilled everywhere if a bag of the resultant shredded waste tears open or explodes on you while you carry it to the dumpster.
