Description

Large Print on board - Window Opening on Nice - Raoul Dufy - 1928 A LARGE litho on masonite. Dimensions: 44" Wide x 34" High This composition depicts a hotel room in Nice, a resort area in southern France. Despite it being the view of one room, from the opened window, one can gaze out at the beach, stirring the desire to travel, and the room's fashionable interior is reflected in the mirror placed in the center. With its vivid colors and rhythmical lines, this piece forms an almost symphonic composition. It is a representative work of Dufy, who is known as a painter of colors. Raoul Dufy (French: 3 June 1877 – 23 March 1953) was a French Fauvist painter. A contemporary of Matisse and Picasso, he developed a colorful, decorative style that became fashionable for designs of ceramics and textile as well as decorative schemes for public buildings. He is noted for scenes of open-air social events. He was also a draftsman, printmaker, book illustrator, scenic designer, a designer of furniture and a planner of public spaces.
