Description

Tl;dr: JVC made a very rare series of wood cone speakers, and this was the top of the line complete stereo system from that series. Sells for $1k if you can find them. https://offerup.co/faYXKzQFnY?$deeplink_path=/redirect/ More info: They're the result of an equally ingenious and idiosyncratic experiment JVC very briefly made in the 90s with molding birch wood into conical drivers using a method of soaking the material in sake to make it more pliable, much like sake is used to soften squid to make the texture more palatable. Read their marketing material on this, even if you're completely unintending to purchase, as it's pretty wild and fascinating: https://offerup.co/faYXKzQFnY?$deeplink_path=/redirect/ Having enjoyed it in various forms and rooms, I should *probably* downsize, but I kinda want them to go somewhere befitting their appeal. Maybe you own a sake bar/sushi bar/izakaya? Food trade ;)? I really feel like there's an audience that would not just appreciate how unique and musical they sound but also the process behind their invention. Zero rush to sell for that reason, but interested in offering them up to see if they can find a more interesting home than my livingroom! The original factory grilles are a crime to use and so I removed the cheap plastic plugs (from the 2-way speakers) that secure them and filled them with complementary dark brown putty (removable if you wish). Looks and sounds much, much better, as why wouldn't you want these drivers proudly on display? And to put this all in perspective, having lived the stereo nerd audiophile life for way too long, I'll advise that you can get a better sounding stereo for less money than my price. That's not the point, and that's not why these are so collectible and desirable/expensive if you can even find them in partial setups. This is more about an artistic/engineering oddity and also happens to sound wonderful. If you're the right kinda buyer, shoot me a message, and thanks for reading!
