Yamaha CX-630 Preamplifier This is an excellent preamplifer and stuff like this is simply not made anymore (unless your budget is 1k+). It has everything you need - amazing phono stage with MC and MM inputs, selectable turnover frequencies for bass and treble that is far more versatile than standard tone controls, variable loudness for dialing in low level listening while not sacrificing sound quality, and a decent headphone amplifier. It even has motorized volume control that means you can use a remote with this. Sadly I lost the remote, but a cheap programmable one will work. Take a look inside, it’s quality nichicon audio capacitors, no corrosion or the 80’s glue issue. All potentiometers and switches were sprayed with de-oxit. Sound wise it’s the neutral sound you’d expect from yamaha - no coloration, interpretation, or adding or taking anything away. Exactly as the recording engineer mastered it. It even has a CD direct button that cuts out all unnecessary functions for the purest and cleanest signal path. Yamaha MX-630 This amplifier is a beast, take a look at the coke bottle sized filter capacitors, the massive transformer, and the ample heat sink. This is far better than your stereo receiver or integrated amplifier, because it has only one job - amplification. That’s where all the money and design went. At 8 ohms this puts out 135 watts at .003 THD. That is super clean power with no audible distortion. It also can pump out 220w at peaks. That is more than enough power to drive 99.9% of all the speakers on the planet. It’s even stable to a 2 ohm load. Very impressive. But how does it sound? It’s clean, neutral, and has no coloration or interpretation. It’s faithful to the source material. That’s the philosophy of “yamaha natural sound” . I cleaned the potentiometers (volume knobs) with de-oxit to ensure crackle free listening, and I set the amplifier bias to make sure that it’s within normal operation range. You’d have to spend at least over a thousand to get equivalent sound quality. Yamaha EQ-32 This is a classic Yamaha equalizer with a cool visual spectrum analyzer. It works as intended and makes a difference when doing a room treatment or dialing in your speakers. It gives your far more control over frequencies than your basic treble and bass controls. It also looks really cool. All the led segments work, and I sprayed the switches with de-oxit.
