Description
This is a stunning hand-carved slingshot made by the Baule people from the Ivory Coast, West Africa. The piece is in excellent condition as shown, and will make an excellent display piece! These slingshots were hand-carved by the Baule people, known for their elaborate wood carving skills, and often feature intricately carved figures, sometimes representing deities or spirits believed to hold talismanic powers. While primarily used by young boys for hunting small game like birds and fruit bats (a delicacy in Baule culture), they were also considered objects of spiritual significance and a rite of passage. The upper part of the slingshot is typically carved in the form of a woman, with the figure appearing "upside down" relative to how the slingshot is held for use. DIMENSIONS: 8" H x 2.5" W x 1.25" D
