Description
⚠️⚠️Attention⚠️⚠️ all connoisseurs of History, Theatre, Film & Writing. I have an opportunity for some special person to be THE gatekeeper, of a history that has gotten swept under the rug. You see this Signed copy of "A Raisin In The Sun" by the author Lorraine Hansberry carries an extra weight in regards to history because the legacy of Ms. Hansberry started with her father Carl Hansberry. Mr. Hansberry was one of the first person of color to own a bank, become a real estate broker & landlord on the South side of Chicago. He was met with so much disdain & disapproval by the White community that the court case Hansberry vs. Lee happened in 1937. The court ruled in favor of Lee; but in 1940 The Supreme Court overturned the decision. Not only did Ms. Hansberry have a great man in her father to study & learn from but she was also blessed to be around Paul Robeson, W.E.B. Du Bois, Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, Jesse Owens & Jackie Robinson just to name a few. As you can see this version of "A Raisin In The Sun" was signed on February 19th, 1960 which is a date that should not be taken lightly because it forshadows Black History Month which wouldn't be Nationally recognized until 1976 by President Gerald Ford. Not only was she a trailblazer for African-Americans but she was also one of the first women of color to support & become a member of the Daughters Of Bilitis (DOB), a groundbreaking lesbian rights organization. An activist through & through providing constant support to the NAACP, SNCC & the LGBTQIA+(before they were even Nationally recognized). A great person can only do great things & Ms. Hansberry cemented her place in history by being the first black woman to achieve the honor of having a critically acclaimed Book and Movie. She opened the door for people of color on both sides of the camera to achieve greater heights of success in the performing arts. Sidney Poitier being the main one; how his role as Walter Lee Younger in A Raisin In the Sun, one of his greatest performances contributed in large measure to his journey in becoming the first Man of color to receive The Academy Award for best LEADING MALE ACTOR. Let us not forget the great cast of Claudia McNeil, Ruby Dee, Diana Sands, Louis Gossett Jr., Ivan Dixon & Stephon Perry. Which was aided by the first woman of color to write an award winning play that would later become a successful movie. Please inbox me if you are interested in this priceless piece of history.
