Description
San Ai Japan 1960s Red Black Gold Jubako Box Fans & Flowers, 5.25x4” Bright and festive little Japanese food box with bold red, gold, and black designs. Great vintage condition consistent with age and use — glossy and clean inside, some light exterior scuffs. Pictures are part of the description, please check them & let me know if you require additional ones. Fascinating Fun Facts: • This style of multi-tiered box is called a jubako (重箱), traditionally used to serve New Year’s dishes (osechi ryori) and picnic foods like during cherry blossom viewing (hanami). • Red and gold with fans, plum blossoms, and chrysanthemums are classic celebratory motifs in Japanese design. • Made of molded plastic by San Ai (三愛), a Japanese company active from the 1960s–80s that produced lacquer-style tableware for everyday and festive use. • Plastic jubako became popular after WWII as an affordable alternative to traditional urushi lacquerware. Dimensions: 5.25 x 4 in Weight: 8 oz Love more than one item from my store? Feel free to message me—I’m always happy to combine shipping or create a custom bundle just for you.
