This is a vintage mid 1960s reel-to-reel tape recorder and audio amplifier manufactured by the Sony Corporation. The model is TC-464SL. The unit does turn on. The supply & takeup reels do move, light comes on also. Key Features & Design: • Type: Four-track, two-channel stereophonic and monophonic reel-to-reel tape recorder. • Electronics: Tube-based amplifier and preamps (using tubes like 12AX7, 6AV6, 6AR5, etc.) with a built-in power amplifier and loudspeaker. • Speeds: Two tape speeds, typically 3 ¾ and 7 ½ inches per second (ips). • Reel Capacity: Up to 7-inch reels. • Sound-on-Sound: Features sound-on-sound recording capabilities, allowing users to layer audio tracks. • The "SL" Variant (Student/Language): Equipped with a special student/teacher comparison switch designed for language learning and music training, letting students flip a switch to compare their pronunciation or performance directly against a recorded lesson.
