Description
Gorgeous 100-year-old red cedar hope chest made in Altavista, Virginia by the L-A-N-E Company in the 1920s. The chest features a primitive Americana design with footed base and raised embellishments along the front. The cedar lined trunk has a slider stop hinge, a lock and key, and includes the moth guarantee certificate which is tacked on the underside of the lid. The chest is in outstanding condition for its age and the exterior was recently polished and reconditioned. No damage. Dimensions: 45”L x 20”W x 21”H. AGE AUTHENTICITY: Typically the age of cedar chests by L-A-N-E is determined by the serial number which is stamped next to the style number on the underside of the chest. However, when the company was formed in 1922 they didn't start adding serial numbers to the chests until 1927. This chest has a style number (45538) but no serial number, which indicates it was manufactured sometime during the years 1922 through 1926. NOTE: This cedar chest complies with the child safety protocols for cedar chests and the lid will not latch/lock when closed without using the key.
