Description
Very rare Westbury Model 1000 Dual-Voiced Reverb Twin Vintage Solid State FET 2x12 combo Original 3 prong plug (even original tie wrap) Original Eminence speakers dated to 1981 FET front end that is meant to emulate tube distortion External Speaker Jack, Line out, Reverb, Remote switch inputs 3 channels; Channel 1 has Pre Volume (Pull Highs), Treble, Bass, Post Volume; Channel 2 has Volume (Pull Highs), Treble, Middle, Bass; Master Reverb, Master Volume: Channel 3 (middle jack) is the combination of Channel 1 and Channel 2 (no footswitches included for the reverb or channel select, but I did test with 1/4" footswitch and both reverb and channel select do work with the footswitch). This is a used, vintage amplifier. Everything has been tested and found to work as intended. There are a couple scuffs, scratches in the tolex but overall condition is excellent given this amp has been around for 43 years. All knobs and switches are original and work. Westbury amps were made by the Unicord company (formerly known as Univox) and were available from late 1980 until around 1982 making this amp quite rare. This was their highest rated amp and was a direct competitor to the Fender Twin Reverb. I learned some Interesting history on Unicord involving Marshall amps: Unicord had started out as a manufacturer of electrical transformers. When the original Marshalls came to the U.S., Unicord's engineers were concerned that the output transformers could not reliably handle the full output. Unicord redesigned the output transformers and told Marshall to use the Unicord design in all units shipped to the U.S. and Marshall could use the design outside the U.S. if they wanted to. Marshall did adopt the Unicord design for all their tube amps. Also, Tony Frank, the design engineer at Unicord, designed the dual-volume-control two-stage pre-amp that Marshall introduced with their 4140 and 2150 amplifiers, which allowed a "super-dirty" fuzz even at extremely low volumes. See pics for more details. This amp is pretty heavy but is has its original casters for easy moving.
