A Bit of History A 1940s Japanese ceramic brown moriage gold gilt teapot represents a post-WWII export item made for the American market, though the moriage style itself has much older origins. These teapots were part of a trend of mass-produced, but still handcrafted, decorative ceramics and were characterized by their brown glaze, raised enamel patterns, and gold trim. They were a popular and affordable form of Japanese folk art and pottery, often made with redware clay and sold in shops and via mail order.
