Description

This excellent resin figurine is part of the Beachcomber’s International Collection of Limited Edition Nautical Figurines. This sculpture is titled “Harpooning A Whale”. It showcases an old mariner in a small dory poised to harpoon a whale that is rising to the surface from a boiling sea. The detail work is incredible! The intensity in his eyes, his beard, his colorful all-weather garb, his boots, and many other fine points of detail! The tag on the bottom indicates that this piece is from the 1998 Old Salts Collection Series. There is also an accompanying Certificate of Authority. This figurine stands approx. 7” tall x 7” wide x 4 ¾” deep. I cannot find any cracks/chips/scratches/etc. These figurines are supposed to replicate old mariners/sailors from another era – so they were made to look old and weathered. [Note: There is/was a piece of twine (just twine) that simulated a rope that the mariner could hold on to after he released the harpoon. It was attached to the end of the harpoon and at the bottom of the dory. Over the years the fibers in the twine have disintegrated. I considered replacing the twine – but in the interest of collectability, I have decided to let the future owner of this figurine make that decision. It does not affect the figurine whatsoever – it is just a piece of twine. See pictures.] Over the years we have alternately displayed some of these figurines in our smoke-free house – in other words, we rotated them. Original box and original packing included. [Note: The tab that you have to pull out to open the box is missing – see picture.] [Note: I did not list the item as NEW – as I understand it, NEW applies to never out of the box. But this item is as close to new as possible – aside from a couple of dustings, it has never been touched - it has only been out of the box for display and photographs.]
