Description

REDUCED! Was $200, NOW $175! 1916 Toledo Cooker, "Domestic Science", fireless cooker. Fireless cookers were an early version of the crock pot or slow cooker of today. Before electricity, food could be heated and then put into a pot in an insulated box or buried in the ground for several hours to finish cooking. By 1916, the company was making two lines of fireless cookers, "Ideal" and "Domestic Science." They were advertised as economical because they saved fuel, and practical because they kept the kitchen cool during hot weather. This particular Cooker belonged to the current owners granddad. It is two pieces. The box does remove from the stand for easy transport. The box has two separate compartments lined with what appears to be stainless steel. The outside of the box is metal. The base or legs is a cast iron frame. The box is 28 3/4" long, 15" wide, and total height is 34". It does have 4 original heat stones and the cross bars to put over the heat stones. The unit is on casters. It only requires heat from the stones to finish cooking the food! Price for this wonderful piece of history, NOW $175!
