A modchip is a mini computer chip (the white chip in the picture) that is installed into a console. Different modchips accomplish different things depending on the console but typically the goal is to modify the console's software in some way. For the Nintendo Switch, when you turn the console on the modchip allows you to choose to run software from the SD card or the official software installed on the switch. This means you can put custom firmware (the console's operating system) on the microSD card which allows you to do a bunch of things you wouldn't normally be able to do. Official firmware is the standard operating system (like Windows or MacOS for computers) and comes pre-installed when you purchase a Nintendo Switch. Custom firmware is a customized version of the software that allows you to run custom programs from a MicroSD card (shown in the picture above). This allows you to install games and apps from your SD card or USB-C cable, which you wouldn't be able to do on the official firmware. Can I play games online? If you have us set up the software, it will be set up to have two modes: the custom firmware and the official firmware. You can play games you own on the official firmware normally, including online. You can play games you have downloaded and installed on the custom firmware. Nintendo doesn't allow you to install and use games or apps online which you have not purchased and will ban you from their services if they detect that you try. We set up the custom firmware so that it blocks Nintendo's servers so that you are safe to play your games and apps on your custom firmware. How do I boot official or custom firmware? On a modded console you have the option to boot into the official firmware or a custom firmware. By holding the volume (+) and (-) buttons while powering on the console you will boot into the official firmware and the switch will function like a normal console. Here you can play purchased games online without being banned. Powering on with just the power button will boot into the custom firmware. Playing illegally downloaded games online will get you banned. If you purchase a mod with an sd card containing our software pack, it is set up to prevent this from happening by blocking connections to Nintendo's servers. Can I use my own microSD card? Any microSD card can be used as long as it is formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. There are issues with fake/knockoff sd cards or slower sd cards. You also have to add the firmware on properly.
