The Mamiya 645AFD III is the last autofocus medium format film camera that truly handles like a classic SLR — that’s what won me over. Since then, I’ve run over 100 rolls through it, traveled with it, and had zero issues with the body or lenses. I’m now moving to a studio-focused medium format system. One thing worth noting — not all electronic film cameras age the same. Newer models tend to have longer-lasting electronics, and the AFD III, released in 2004, features Mamiya’s most advanced AF system of its era. This is an ideal setup for wedding or portrait photographers.
