Description

This is a unique silver plated ashtray with matchbox holder, measuring 4 1/4 inches tall by 4 11/16 inches across the base. It has a flip flop mechanism that allows the ashes to fall into a lower well. The attached matchbox holder pushes the box into an open position and has a side opening that reveals the striking surface for easy match lighting. A heavy base stabilizes the whole piece. These wonderful ashtrays were used in the lobby of the Shanghai Tang Hotel in the 1930's. In excellent vintage condition, this would be a great item for the cigar aficionado or just the casual smoker.
