I use a smaller version of this monitor as an external display for my laptop and it works great. The main difference between commercial displays and regular consumer displays is the build quality and picture quality. The picture on commercial displays is far superior and they are able to withstand 24 hour per day operation. Consumer monitors are built to be run about 8 to 10 hours per day.
