Description

Set of 6 mint, sealed decks made by United States PlayingCard Co. and issued as part of the nation's bicentennial celebration in 1976. The backs of the 6 decks depict 6 different historic flags dating to the timeof the American Revolution, as follows: 1775: Bunker Hill Flag ("Pine TreeFlag") that was said to have flown over the Colonial forces at the Battleof Bunker Hill. 1775: Culpeper Flag ("CoiledRattlesnake"), the flag of the Culpeper (Va.) Minute Men, with a coiledrattlesnake, a symbol found on the flags of many Southern Colonies during theRevolutionary War. 1775: Washington's Cruiser Flag, the flag flown byWashington's squadron of six cruisers, before the adoption of the Grand UnionFlag. 1776: Grand Union Flag, the first flag of theContinental Army, known also in history as the Continental Flag, Congress Flag,Cambridge Flag, Great Union Flag, and First Navy Ensign. 1777: First National Flag, pursuant to the firstFlag Act passed by Congress on June 14, 1(contact info removed): Bennington Flag, carried by Colonial forcesat the Battle of Bennington on August 16, 1777. Each deck has at least 52 suited cards, plus 2Jokers, plus a backed insert card describing the deck's Flag. The cards arebridge size, measuring 90mm x 58mm. They are housed in an attractive box, withcommemorative fabric to the underside of the lid and a slotted bottom toseparate and hold the decks. The box also has the “Pepsi” name on the lid, which suggests to me that Pepsi may have provided some of the funding for thisproject. As noted, the cards are mint and sealed. The boxis in excellent condition, with only very minor shelf wear
