Vintage Japan-Made Jewelry Music Box 2-Doors W Tapestry TOYO EXC+

Anyone can go to a discount store and buy a Chinese made wooden jewelry box with all sorts of decorations for about the same price. This is something different and several steps better in every way. Japan began making jewelry and music boxes right after WW2 and became known for quality second only to Swiss boxes, though many times, they are equal. The Toyo company is one of the best in Japan and though there are many many types they made, I went through 500 photos and could not find another like this one. This one is a bit special and would make a GREAT gift. This box is completely covered in antiqued gold paint and has 2 doors in the front. The doors are like a shadowbox as they are deep and there is an ornate "carved" frame around the door. This is cast in resin and not hand carved wood as that would be much more expensive. This has a lot of gold leaf type paint on it. In the center of the ornate frame is a Victorian scene printed on fabric stretched over a cushion material. The doors dont just open and close, but there is a spring loaded ball set in the frame for each door and the ball pops into a hole on the bottom of the door. Behind the 2 doors are 3 drawers, each lined with felt. The bottom one is only half depth as the music box mechanism is in the rear. The trigger switch is an easy to bend and shape metal wire. It is set perfect now and functions fine, but can be easily bent as needed to adjust. The only real flaw is the left ornate frame has a crack that was repaired. Not really visible at all unless directly pointed out as the frame is not flat, but very highly textured and designed (3D). One of the drawers has a very light pink toned spot which again, very minor and hard to see (see photos of drawers). No significant scratches or chips on the rest and the music box works perfectly It is 12.5" W x 8" H x 6" D MANY MORE PHOTOS
