Alocasia Odora plant with Arrowhead at the base of pot. Tropical indoor plant. In a 6½" nursing pot. Can be grown outdoors as well. An Alocasia needs several hours of bright, indirect sunlight daily, similar to the dappled light found under a rainforest canopy. While it thrives in light, direct sun, especially during peak hours (9 am to 5 pm), will scorch its leaves, so you should avoid direct exposure to prevent damage. If you can't provide this, you can supplement the light with artificial grow lights. Alocasias need a loose, fast-draining, and airy potting mix, similar to what is used for aroids or other tropical plants, to prevent root rot from waterlogged soil. A base of peat or coco coir can be amended with perlite, orchid bark, or pumice to create a mix that retains some moisture but also allows for excellent drainage and aeration. I highly recommend spraying all plants once a month with a pesticidal spray.
