Description
A beautifully boxed set of five Japanese Kishi Shino ware coffee cups with matching saucers, presented in their original signed wooden tomobako with kiln papers. Crafted in the celebrated Shino pottery tradition of Mino, Gifu Prefecture, these pieces feature flowing chestnut-brown glaze against a soft gray-white feldspar ground, a style known as “Kishi Shino.” Each cup and saucer bears unique glaze variations, embodying the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. The original label describes the design as “The Flow of Serenity” (やすらぎの流動), a poetic nod to the sweeping glaze patterns. Distributed by Shaddy Ceramics Co., Ltd. as part of their Special Selection Tableware line, this set was produced in Japan during the 1980s–90s, when boxed ceramic giftware was a refined and highly popular tradition. Generously sized cups with sturdy handles pair with faceted, hand-formed saucers. Both functional and sculptural, they bridge centuries of Shino ware tradition with a modern sensibility. The original wooden tomobako box bears hand-brushed calligraphy and kiln seals, and the included inserts document the lineage and recognition of the pottery studio. Unused. Excellent vintage condition. Minor glaze variations and natural irregularities from handcrafting. Cup: 4.25” wide (including handle), 3.25” deep, 2.5” high. Saucer: 6” diameter, .75" high. Box: 11.25" wide, 9.75" deep, and 4.75.
