This plant thrives in areas with 4-6 hours of sunlight and afternoon shade, though it can tolerate full shade, which may reduce blooming. Preferring well-drained soil, it can also tolerate clay loam soil common in the Central Valley. The plant grows two feet tall and spreads up to five feet wide. For optimal growth, deadheading spent blossoms and propagation by division after the first growing season are recommended.
