It is already put together, so just slide the bottom part between the mattress or cushion and then you flip up the 16" wide handle so you have some leverage and stability when sitting or standing. It can fold down to the front or the back with the push of a button. Free additional items include: a strap to attach it to the furniture, a cute little storage bag that attaches to the front for your phone or remote, a motion sensor light so you can see at night and a black gait belt. I paid $80 for it and we never got to use it, but will take $50.
