Here's your chance to own an amazing retro restoration of a fantastic vintage travel trailer. We exhibited our 1974 Avion LaGrande (28') and our 1979 Avion 7.9h (26') travel trailers this past May at Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI. It was their 2025 Annual Vintage Boat & Travel Trailer Rally. It was a great turnout in general but where were the Avions this year?? I have to tell you... I had three (3) seasoned Airstream owners admit to me that Avion construction was far superior to Airstream!! We all (Avion owners) believe that as fact and it's easy to dismiss as "legend" when conferring with fellow vintage enthusiasts - but it was too cool having Airstream devotees admit it out loud without prompting!! More than anything I think that is a testament to my wife's talent in bringing our Avions back to life. My wife is the design mastermind behind both of our Avion trailer restorations (see our other ad for the 1979 7.9H for sale)... And now, for your consideration is her 1974 Avion La Grande 28'. We purchased this trailer a number of years ago. She didn't just "restore" it - she took it back to 1974 just as it is depicted in the original brochures! She wanted to bring to life the over-the-top, extravagant and opulent lifestyle depicted in the original brochures. • We used images from the 1973 and 1975 brochures we found on https://offerup.com/redirect/?o=U2lsdmVyQXZpb24uY29t. If you zoom in on the photos, you can see where we placed framed brochure images throughout the trailer for reference. • She found shag carpet in Detroit. We drove 2 hours from the west side of the state to go get it. • For the last year (or more), we've been collecting the vintage '70s decor, media, accessories, kitchen and glassware, Tupperware, toys, games, etc. On that same excursion for carpet, we found the amber glass canisters seen on the kitchen sink!! That's just one crazy highlight of our hunting trips. • Every single person who walked out of the '74 at the show - no matter what age they were - had the biggest smile on their faces!! • The two biggest comments were, "My grandma's house looked just like that!" or, "I grew up in that house!" • The funniest comments were the folks asking where she got the colored toilet paper!! She's a hunter and a purist - if it's out there, she'll find it! • No award this year. But simply watching folks' reactions as they walked out of her time capsule was priceless and more of an award than any little plaque could've provided! I replaced the entire floor in both the front living area and the rear bath. That included tearing out down to the steel frame and building and installing a new sandwich floor similar to the original construction. Progress photos showing work done are available upon request. Note the couch - that is the original pull-out couch with original fabric! There are still some things that need to be finished. Among the to-dos: • Water heater needs to be replaced. • Run new water lines from water heater to kitchen sink. • Gas lines should be tested. We connected the new stove but have not tested the lines. • Roof needs attention - some minor leaks in the rain. We keep it stored under a cover to keep it dry. NOTE: ALL DECOR AND ACCESSORIES SHOWN ARE INCLUDED IN THE SALE ...including the vintage yellow toilet paper still in original packaging.... The trailer tows beautifully and easily.
