Description

For sale is a gorgeous 1983-P Olympic Discus Thrower Commemorative Silver Dollar graded and certified by ANACS at MS-70, which is an unbelievably rare grade for this coin. The coin itself is not rare at all--and you can even find them in MS-69 grades for around $40. But once they reach MS-70 the price increases almost 800% because VERY few achieve MS-70 because coins struck in this era were not very strong strikes, so they rarely achieve 70. It is so rare, in fact, that PCGS has only certified a tiny 153 coins to this grade. THAT is how scarce this coin is! This coin was minted to commemorate the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The coin features the iconic symbol of the discus thrower and Olympic Rings on the obverse and the reverse has the bust of an American Bald Eagle. What makes this coin so notable is not only is it the very first Olympic coin ever minted, but it actually is the first commemorative dollar to be minted since 1900! Those two points alone, in addition to its very rare MS-70 grade make it a very rare collectible coin. The coin is also 90% silver. As you can see from the pics the coin is in incredible condition. It is blast white and all images, date, mint mark, are totally sharp and bold. It has that gorgeous lustrous finish you expect from high quality mint state coins. The coin has no damage, major blemishes, or any toning at all. It really is as near perfect as it can get! This is an amazing historic coin that can be had for a very low cost.
