Description

So many vintage 1950s/60s things are called Mid Century Modern… this one truly is! A rare and exceptionally iconic desk designed by renowned industrial designer Raymond Loewy for Brunswick Furniture. This tanker style desk has a stainless steel frame and legs, with real cedar drawers and a huge laminate wood drafting style desk. It has 3 drawers; one shallow wide pencil/pen/memo book/drafting compass drawer directly over the seat area, one longer regular depth drawer to the top right, and one extra deep (10.5 inch) long drawer designed for holding files to the bottom right. (I have drawers lined with cork protectively but it can be removed with no residue.) The desk is in excellent condition; the inside of the drawers have some light staining original to it’s use as a work desk, which to me gives it historic patina, but could easily be sanded out if desired. The laminate on the desk is intact, only lightly wearing down along the edges, and some very minor surfaces scratches which again speaks to its 70+ years as an industrial work desk, and which could also be buffed out if desired. All hardware and parts for the desk are original.* (see note below) The desk measures: 29 inches floor to desktop; desk top is 48 inches wide and 30 inches long. (**See note below) It honestly pains me to sell this desk, as I found it at an estate sale nearly 20 years ago just before the mid-century trend really took off and made pieces such as these so difficult to find (affordably, anyway!), but family needs necessitate selling off some of the heirlooms. This is a rare opportunity to own one of the signature pieces that defined the era and the Mid Century Modern aesthetic. - - Note: I often had to unscrew the legs/drawers from the table top to fit it through indoor doorways. It reassembles easily. Please also note, the desk is relatively heavy, my partner and i can help you get it out of our place but you will definitely need someone to help you get it into your place.
