Description
Lovely large round silver plate/quadruple plate, serving tray by James Tufts late 1800’s. The center has an octagonal design depicting five angels, three are musicians and two holding the music notebook as well as flower design. The rim is undulated. It is stamped on the base “James W. Tufts Quadruple Plate Boston Mass 2348 and the logo.” Measurement & Weight Diameter 12.0” x Height 1.0” Weight: 1 .6 lbs. Condition Very good condition for this tray that is over 120 years old, some scratches and minor dents are expected. James W. Tufts: Born on February 11th, 1835, in Charlestown, Massachusetts, James Walker Tufts was the son of Leonard Tufts (a blacksmith) and Hepzibah Fosdick Tufts. James W. Tufts was a metallurgist, silver platter, and pewterer based out of Boston, Massachusetts. It was there that, at the age of 27, he established the Arctic Soda Fountain Company.
