Description

Some pieces of furniture are simply old. Others come with a story. This beautiful antique wooden washstand/vanity has been part of my clients family’s history for nearly 50 years. In 1977, it was purchased at auction, and it has been treasured and kept ever since. Now, after decades in the family, it’s ready to begin its next chapter with someone who appreciates the craftsmanship and character of antique furniture. The piece is full of wonderful period details—from the warm wood grain and delicate decorative inlay to the ornate upper crest, oval beveled-style mirror, original-style hardware, and beautiful light-colored stone/marble top. The small drawer, cabinet, and open lower shelf make it as charming and functional as it is decorative. What I especially love is that it hasn’t lost the evidence of its age. There are marks, scratches, wear, and imperfections acquired over many decades, giving it the unmistakable character that simply can’t be recreated in a new piece. It is being sold in its existing vintage/antique condition, with its age and patina proudly intact. Please review all photos carefully as they are an important part of the description. Although its exact maker and age have not been independently authenticated, the design has a wonderful late-Victorian/Edwardian feel and works beautifully in Neoclassical, Victorian, traditional, eclectic, cottage, or collected interiors. After being purchased at auction in 1977 and spending almost half a century with one family, this is a special opportunity to become the next caretaker of a piece with a history. A beautiful statement piece—and hopefully one whose story will continue for many more decades.
