Description
This is an early 20th Century rice scoop / silk iron made in China. Measures approximately 7” long (including handle) with a scoop diameter of 3 3/4” and 1 1/2” high. The scoop is made of brass, while the handle is adorned with cloisonné. The pan’s exterior features reliefs of animals and dragons. This motif is on all sides. The enamel handle displays a colorful floral and geometric design. The colors include black, white, green, red and blue. Quality craftsmanship is evident. This piece has multiple uses: rice scoop, ladle, cooking vessel or incense burner. It is sometimes also referred to as a silk iron or coal pan because, when heated with coals, the pan can be used to press smooth, delicate fabrics, particularly silk. It is truly a rare and interesting find. Perfect for those interested in Asian antiques or for those who simply appreciate beautiful, unusual and functional home decor. Some wear consistent with age. The scoop has some patina. No loss to the enamel. No breaks, bends or repairs. Cash only. Pickup in New Hyde Park, Nassau County, Long Island.
