Description

1989 Toyota Pickup 22R - 2wd – 4-speed Manual transmission – Project / Needs TLC – $2000 Firm If you know, you know. This is a 1989 Toyota Pickup with the legendary carbureted 22R and manual transmission — one of the most bullet-proof, long-lasting drivetrains Toyota ever made. These trucks are increasingly hard to find, and once sorted, they’re known to run forever. I’ve owned this truck for over 12 years, and it was my daily driver for most of that time. It’s been dependable for me, but at this point it needs to be someone else’s project. The Good: 22R carbureted engine (the coveted one) Manual transmission ~172,500 miles Owned 12+ years Interior is in good shape for a 37-year-old truck Nice seat covers Bluetooth stereo Tags are good through September Driver’s side door has a decent ding (was there when I bought it) — does not affect function Paint has typical wear for its age, nothing unusual These trucks are highly sought after and hold value once running right Recent Work / Investment: Top end rebuild done by a local mechanic New spark plugs, plug wires, coil, etc. New fuel filter Rebuilt carburetor installed I’ve put around $4,000 into the top end rebuild and carb work alone. The Not-So-Good (Please Read): After the top end rebuild, the truck began to hesitate randomly None of the ignition or fuel replacements resolved the issue It has since started running very rough It will backfire, which caused an exhaust leak (you can see the leak in the line) It may die after backfiring, then start back up and run smoothly again The truck has been sitting for about a year I removed insurance due to how poorly it drives It does run, but it runs extremely rough and is not roadworthy. It will need to be towed. Important Notes: No test drives due to lack of insurance and current running condition We can start it up so you can hear it run This is a project truck that needs TLC Once sorted, these trucks are known to be consistent, reliable runners Price & Terms: $2000 FIRM Lowball offers will be ignored If it doesn’t sell, I’ll garage it — I’m not desperate, just realistic If you’re looking for a solid foundation and know your way around old Toyotas, this is a great opportunity to get into a classic 22R truck at a fair price.
